Brotherly Love........

Adrian is really into skateboarding & has already put in his order for Christmas.
He would love to have a new skateboard, pads, & a new helmet ( a cool one was the request).
Our street was just newly paved, so I allowed the boys to go out and ride on it as long as I was out there with them. Kevin was giving Adrian pointers on how to do tricks. I love it when they all get along and they can help each other out...

Then Kevin played baseball with Elijah... Elijah's laugh was infectious thinking that he was out running Kevin.

Following Directions...

Sunday I posted a post in regards to the book I was reading.... "Life Lessons For the Busy Mom". On Tuesday night, the boys were sitting down watching their movie, so I had a little bit of time for myself...I baked a batch of brownies (not a 3 generation recipe handed down) but still very good, sat down with my book , a brownie & a diet coke.... Wow, we should try & do that more often......

Sorry to interrupt the regular schedule recipe blog......

Wednesday is normally recipe Wednesday but I need to interrupt it.....

ELIJAH STARTED KINDEGARTEN..............
Boys..... No matter how tough, strong, bold and outspoken they are, They still can get to the soft spot of your heart.
I expected Elijah to do his little strut this morning, wave goodbye & be off but that is far from what happened.... Didn't want to get out of bed, stomach hurt, cranky... oh my he was cranky... and for pics as u all know he is a ham... I had to fight tooth & nail to get them.
Nick came down which was a suprise for him(he just got back from Tennesee last night), but that didn't even help. The time finally comes & we head off to school.. Adrian is being a good big brother trying to give him pointers... telling him how much fun he will have with his friend & etc.
but that didn't seem to matter he was holding my hand for dear life. We get out of the car & start to head across the parking lot, he looks up and says "Mom, I'm nervous."... I reassure him that he's going to be fine, nothing to be nervous about (as my own stomach has butterflies bouncing around)... We get into the gym. This is where the corral all the kids in the morning. Each class has a designated sitting area & then the teachers come down & pick them up. We find his class, the only thing he's concerned with he can't find Adrian.. He wants to sit with him... I finally find Adrian & point him out, that seems to calm him a little... Finally the teacher comes,
gets them into line & off they go.... We walk behind, watch them enter... He hangs up his backpack & never looks back... We turn & head out of the school........
No matter how many times I've done this, that 1st day feeling never goes away.... And to think I'm so blessed to have both him & Adrian in my life... I've often wandered & thought...."His biological mom has no idea what she has given up & missed out on but on the other hand am so greatful that I've been given the chance to be with my 2 boys...."

1st Day of School..................

Well today is the 1st for alot of things in our house today...... I've actually had a pit in my stomach all morning... HMMMMM ....

We have a tradition in our family as do many of you.. We always take pictures the 1st day of school... So the Kevin's dad came in for the first day pic but this is the last time he will be doing it..... It seems so strange that Kevin is a senior...(I'm sure you will hear me say that alot this year).....

Adrian starts 3rd grade today.... Wow.... time has flown... He was so excited.. popped out of bed... and got ready with no struggles.. we also know that won't last long *lol*

Then we always take a mom shot with all the kids on the 1st day... Elijah actually doesn't start till Wednesday... so that will be Wednesday post... but today he does start a new daycare. He was real nervous...said his tummy hurt... but I've called & he is doing great... running & playing like he's been there 4 ever. .....

Jenn is over registering for Big Bend.... Have had a couple text's from her, made me a tad nervous... It said "You should have came with me"...... I think she's finding out what growing up is all about but you know what... I'm still as uneasy as I was when she was starting on her 1st day of school.....

Life Lessons for Busy Moms.......

My dryer has gone kaput...... So today I was sitting in my car patiently waiting for the clothes
to dry at the laundry mat, I began reading a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book enititled " Life Lessons for Busy Moms". I've always enjoyed the Chicken Soup for the Soul books but this one seems to be written about me, you and every other busy women out there. It's nice to be able to relate to something & actually be able to sit back & say "OH MY GOSH, I"M NOT GOIN CRAZY".....

Life Lesson #1 - Celebrate your achievements as a busy mom....
We all get caught up in the "perfect mom syndrome". We try so hard to make sure we do it all, whether it be working, attending all the kids functions, making sure they have clothes to wear, a hot meal prepared. And then instead of applauding ourselves for a job well done, we find things that we could have done better. We tend to lack in the ability to self - nurture and show compassion toward ourselves. "THIS IS ME!!!!!"..... "OH MY GOSH... THIS IS ME!!!!".....
Now that I've identified this... Here are their suggestions:

CELEBRATING YOUR OWN SPECIAL SELF:.....
a) treat yourself to a massage or a facial (not me - don't like to be touched *lol*)
b) play your favorite music softly during while enjoying a "quiet hour"
c) Bake your beloved family recipe handed down 3 generations
d) Give yourself a latte break after spending 24 hours nursing your child thru the croup.

SING YOUR OWN PRAISES:....
a) Congratulate yourself and your children when they achieve a new accomplishment
b) Recognize the ways you support your children when they achieve academic success
c) Recognize the ways you support your children when they achieve acts of kindness....

Hmmm... kindof sounds like we need to take a little bit of time each day for ourselves and
praise ourselves not only for our accomplishments but for our childrens......afterall we are the ones that stand behind them.....

Well, I think I will share bits of pieces of this book ...... the topics are endless & oh so reflect on all of us busy moms or atleast on me...,..... clutter, organization, conflict resolution, finding our identity,......

School starts tomorrow .... Hope everyone has a great morning & a great first day.....

I'M SO TIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know the rest of the mom's in blog world are feeling the same thing that I am but
I just want to say "I'M SO TIRED AND STRESSED!!!!!" We are all excited for the new school year but the stress of getting there is unreal!!! (Might help if I didn't put it off till 2 days before school was to start) *lol*

This a.m. I got up and ran to farmer's market & grabbed 2 boxes of peaches, so we know what Iwill be doing one night after work.... I then came home & cleaned house... Yeah!!!

After lunch I took the boys over to meet their new babysitter, Brittney. They will both ride the bus afterschool to her house , which is located no further than 2 miles from where I work *yeah*... They were pretty excited when they found out she has a big tree with a swing & a rope.... They will only be there apx one hour afterschool.... It will work out great....

Then we headed for the dreaded school shopping.... I had already picked up 99% of the supplies when all the sales were on, so that did help. And having Kevin there was a huge help... not only a help but he is so low maintence. He bought 3 pairs of jeans, pencils, notebooks & I think a candy bar *lol*...... He said I have shirts, shoes, and it's my last year don't worry about me mom.

We went to get shoes 1st at Payless for the little boys - BOGO!!!!! Well only one problem only found one pair of shoes and that was for Elijah.

Headed to Shopko & tried to find Adrian a pair of shoes & clothes.. .OH MY GOSH!!!!!! It's the wrong color, right color wrong shape of a shoe, liked the shoe didn't like the black sole..... However found a pair he liked but were only $50 .00...... sorry....... So he's ticked, I'm ticked,
look for shirts.... wrong colors.... long sleeves..... OH MY GOSH!!!! We left and we were both
discouraged...

Haircuts at 4:00...... That was a success but took an hour.....

McDonald's for dinner cuz boys are to wound & don't dare take to nice resteraunt

Head for Walmart - Told Adrian this is it... you better hope they have shoes, and some shirts... you like... You are being way to picky.... Walked to the kids section, found 4-5 shirts he liked - What???? the right color, right size, hmmmm walked over to the shoes.... 1st pair he found, right size, right color...............hmmmmmmm Found backpacks .....only 10.00 all we could find early were 15 -20 and they both liked them...........hmmmmm....................who would have figured... Should have started at Walmart & ended at Shopko and maybe I wouldn't have been so stressed....

So to all the other mom's ''YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!"

What Color Are You????

Being that school starts on Monday, thought this would be cute to add to my blog... Thanks for the idea Susan. Monday, I officially have a Senior, a 3rd grader & on Wednesday a Kindegartener... Jenn is taking her placement tests today... Wow time sure goes fast...

You Are a Yellow Crayon

Your world is colored with happy, warm, fun colors.

You have a thoughtful and wise way about you. Some people might even consider you a genius.

Charming and eloquent, you are able to get people to do things your way.

While you seem spontaneous and free wheeling, you are calculating to the extreme.

Your color wheel opposite is purple. You both are charismatic leaders, but purple people act like you have no depth.

Sunday............

I had planned to have my mom & brothers to come over for a bbq on Sunday but when we got up it was raining & rained most of the day. I have a brother who is a parapalegic & did you know that not all houses / mobile homes doors are not wide enough to get a wheel chair in the doors???? So since we couldn't be outside, we had to move to my mom's where Scott could get in. I made the chicken & beef fajita's & Dave made the Spainish rice & refried beans. What a feast it was & it was mighty tasty if I say so myself.
Dave's boy Travis, was picked to play baseball for the Columbia Basin Riverdogs as a pitcher. They were gone last week to Ohio, playing in the World Series Babe Ruth Championship. They took 3rd which was awesome & what an experience for Travis. He usually pitches the 3rd or 4th game in tournaments. It so happened when he came into the pitching rotation, he had to pitch against the best team in the tournament. He did an awesome job, they did end up losing but most of it was due to their offensive (no hitting) and the errors in the field. Our family was very proud of him. I took a picture of him with his 3rd place trophy. He actually looks like a

linebacker on the mound *lol*...

I'm also posting a picture of my two oldest boys Kevin & Eric & Travis. I will look for a picture of them when they were little this evening... It's always fun to take pictures of now & look back at them when they were little. I wish Dave's oldest boy Pat would have been there. One day we will get us all together again....

Grant County Fair...................

IT'S FAIR TIME!!!!!

Annette called & wanted to know if I wanted to ride along and take the boys to the fair. Her daughter Kristen & her friend Mika were going to go... After much debating, I decided to take the boys. Even though it's totally overrated.... way to expensive..... but the boys would love it & that is what mattered. So off we went... The boys were so excited.... lets go on this ride...lets do this ride.... Adrian was quite brave & went on pretty much all he could where Elijah was a little more apprehensive. Adrian was pretty brave riding the Dragon Wagon (Dragon mini roller coaster) throwing his hands in the air, as Elijah was holding on for dear life.. When Elijah got off Annette asked him "Elijah wasn't that fun?" He replied "No, no, no.... I felt like I was falling". We both broke out laughing.

Now as for the bigger girls, Kristen & Mika, they were off on the big rides. They got brave or at least braver than I or Annette would have a few times... They went on both the Ali Baba & The
Drop Zone.... Now the Drop Zone takes you straight up in the air & plunges straight down... When Kristen called to tell Annette they were taking the plunge, we gathered the boys & said this we got to see.....

Before the Drop Zone After the Drop Zone

We had a great time... stayed way later than planned... Thanks Annette!!!

Grant County Demo Derby.................

Wilbur-Ellis has box seats for the demo & the rodeo. Us gals in the office usually start bribing later July early August for the tickets. This year Heather & I bribed & won... We met early for Pizza & took the boys to the demo... A night filled with mud, dirt, smoke, loud engine reving & 4 wound up boys, what more could you ask for. We would all pick cars & cheer, clap for the one we wanted...It seems Adrian was getting a little too serious after losing to Elijah's car *lol*.. As for Heather & Chance.. they were exchanging words on who won, how they won & why each was the better *lol*.... We had a great evening...
My favorite part of the demo and / or rodeo is the presentation of the colors. They have such a unique way of presenting them. They always recognize the men / women that are in the armed services... They had some of the better looking cars bring out the flag for each, Army, Navy, Marine & etc.... They ask anyone that had someone serving or that had been in a branch of the service to stand & yell when the flag was driven by.... This may seem strange but I get goosebumps & teary eyed every time. They played the song "American Soldier" by Toby Keith during this time..... It sure makes you reflect on how lucky we are for living in such a great country. Then they brought out the American flag , several soldiers, and the gal that was to sing in the red dodge pickup. The blue & white dodge pickups carried men/women that had served in the service. I believe one was 92 yrs old.... Amazing..... I've included some pics. So even though we live in a small hick town that drew over 5000 people to watch a bunch of wrecked cars race & smash each other..... We all are so greatful to each that have served, are serving, and for the ones whom have lost their lives so that we are able to enjoy such a silly night of fun!!! THANKS TO ALL!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIJAH...........

Elijah actually turns 5 on Monday but today was the celebration..... He wanted a cake that was red, yellow, blue & green and he wanted golf clubs like Woody's....
Well we spent the a.m. looking for the golf clubs & struck out but was able to replace it with some other gifts.. thinking he wouldn't remember however he is only 5.... As for the cake...I've never made a cake that was so ugly & unappetizing but it didn't matter cuz he loved it and that was what he wanted.....As for his gifts he loved them all... however, he was setting playing with his toys... looks up and says ok mom, now where are my golf clubs..... I felt so bad... told him we couldn't find any and that I already had contacted Santa & put in an order cuz he goes all over the world & I'm sure he can find him some.... Guess I better get busy...

Why God Made Little Boys
(Author Unknown)
God made a world out of his dreams,
of magic mountains, oceans and streams
prairies and plains and wooded land.
Then paused and thought,
"I need someone to stand on top of the mountains
to conquer the seas,
explore the plains,
and climb the trees.
Someone to start out small and grow,
sturdy and strong like a tree" so ...
HE created BOYS, full of spirit and fun
to explore and conquer
to romp and run
with dirty faces, banged up chins
with courageous hearts and boyish grins.
That's a job well done!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIJAH!!!!

Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickeled Pickles .........

Friday night after the picnic, I came home & started soaking my cucumbers so I could pickle them the next morning. I got up bright and early on Saturday & began pickling.... 1st I had

to wash off the lime pickling & get all those little black prickly's off... then I had to peel the garlic, oh the garlic... between the prickles & the garlic my thumbs are still red & a tad sore..... then filled the jars with garlic, fresh dill, a tad bit of sugar, a red chili & oh I thru in a 1/2 of a jalepeno for some spice, boiled up the brine & filled them up.... I canned 18 qts of pickles... hmmm not sure what I'm going to do with all those but they sure look nice ....
Annette & I were headed for Tricities in the afternoon to meet Nick & his friend Bob. We were going to spend the afternoon on the river... An adult day, wow that doesn't happen often... I knew Annette was home getting ready & hmmmm did I tell you I canned 18 qts of pickles... I finally called Nick & said... I hope you like the smell of eau' de dill & garlic water..... He busted out laughing and said hmmmm memories of my grandma (he's family is Greek)... We headed off
for Tricities... by the time we got there Nick had called wandering where we were (how many pit stops Annette???) and to tell us there was a tad problem... the water pump went out on the boat, they were floating down the river, waiting for Nick's boss to get to them & tow them in..

We waited patiently at the dock... so concerned on their welfare.... All of a sudden around the bend comes this boat & I mean boat( did I tell you this boat has a yaught status)... pulling Nick's boat with the 2 guys in it..... I couldn't help myself, I only had the urge to sing "ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT.... a few times..... Well we jump on to the Daddy Boat *lol*.... and only harrassed the guys a few times.... We get the boat docked, loaded & all jump onto Tom's boat....

I'm not sure what was so upsetting - having to spend the day on the yaught or having all those people staring at us when we docked to go have dinner at Cedars.....
What a great day~~~

Company Picnic

Today at work was spent running around purchasing items for our annual Company Picnic. Our picnic was held inside the aquatic center. We had 130 signed up and only 185 showed....Hmmmm can you do the math... Now being that Annette, Heather & I are such good planners, we only ran out of hotdogs & oops buns... now we had enough burgers & hotdogs for 210 people but somewhere, somehow, we got lost in the bun count... Oh well, I only had to stop Heather once or maybe twice from stealing buns from people because they were not on the list to attend *lol*and I only threatened a few of our male employees that they couldn't have 2nds till everyone had eaten (oops they were in line for dessert) *lol* There ended up being plenty of food... the kids swam, played on the toys had an awesome volley ball game going... Was a great time. The hi-lite of the picnic for the kids is the Schwann's Man... He comes about an hour into the picnic, opens up his truck & have at it ....... It was a great time... can't wait till next year...

An Eventful Weekend......

This weekend ended up to be quite eventful. Friday night Annette's daughter, Kristen came over & spent the night... The boys were so excited....I thought about taking them to the "Free"
Movie in the Park... When I called to see what was playing, they had cancelled it due to high winds.... Our weather is so unpredictible these days...aghhh!!!! We ended up just staying home & veging..... My cousin Sue called in a panic Friday night, her daughter's wedding was on Saturday & she needed more help, was there anyway Nick & I could come up early... Well it changed a few plans we had made but agreed we could do it... Saturday, got up, ran Kristen to
her Grandma's in Moses Lake, & headed for Cour 'd elene. I had called that morning, trying to get a motel and I swear there was nothing from postfalls on available... So we decided to wing it.
My mom agreed to let us shower in between setting up & getting to the wedding in her room...
We get up to the Ranch where it is being held..... after 30 mins in road construction/accident/ and yes... Nick getting lost- Why do men always blame women when they read the directions incorrectly ????? We finally arrived. Well.... after the experience of trying to set up in the wind & dodging wasps all day I told my kids no getting married outside.... However it ended up beautiful & very eventful...
Most weddings are so elaborate but my cousins' daughter is far from plain but very simple..
Imagine.... White tablecloths, Pink with white polkadot runners, small gavelnized buckets with grannysmith apples at each end of the table, and galvenized bucket in the center of each with a champagne chilling...... Very tasteful... I spent the 1st part of the evening preparing food & serving food & oh yes my most important job.... standing over the food, flapping my arms like an idiot trying to shhhhooo the wasps away... however even with all my effort we had a few casualties that had landed in the little cups of ranch dip that drowned a slow death...
I would love to tell all the details but you've heard the saying "What goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas:".... Well what happens at a"Jackson Wedding stays at a Jackson Wedding" :) and don't ever underestimate the stamina of a 70 yr. women.
I also was able to figured out how all these young petite women stay so slimm...... "Have you ever seen them dance".... The dance these days is to jump straight up and down to the beat, waving your arms and pointing down at the ground, oh yes & singing/yelling at the tops of their lungs...
What a great exercise program.... and oh yes... don't forget who ever you are dancing with are free game to any on the floor.... I saw moves hmmmm.... still haven't figured out what they were doing.... or whom they were actually with... Times have changed.
It was a great wedding and I wish them well.... We didn't get home till 2:30 a.m. I tried all the way from Spokane on to get a room... and they kept saying "NO ROOM AT THE INN"... I finally gave up & just drove home...
Sunday I spent printing pictures... I love my digital camera just gives me to much room not to have to take care of those pics...
Well I hope everyone had a great weekend.~~~

I THINK HE LOOKS LIKE GEORGE ON STUART LITTLE!!!

Yesterday, I spent the morning with Elijah at the eye doctor. According to Dr. Benion he has several things wrong... His actual eyes are very small... smaller than normal, he asked if it ran in our family. I explained that Elijah was adopted & I didn't know if it did or not. His eyes both focus differently, and then the left eye crosses.... So we get to venture into glasses & then most likely have to patch the right eye to force the left eye to start working. Well after the visit with Dr. Benion he reccommended Valley Eye Care in Moses Lake to get the frames. I had never been there so was a tad nervous. The gals at the front were so helpful & got us right in & the doctor was able to come over & help pick out some frames & get him fitted. What a great place.
Next week Elijah will be sportin some new glasses... He's already nervous... Asking questions, What if I look ugly... what if they make fun of me... I just keep telling him out great he looks & lots of people like me & Nick both wear glasses.. But I guess at 4 the only thing that matters to him is what he will be going thru....

Now tell me... Who wouldn't think this is adoreable ?????
