Missing My Grandparents......

My grandparents always raised a big garden...  Every summer we would go over and help can, freeze or do what ever we could to help put it up.  The memories I have are still so vivid.... The apple , peach, pear boxes lined up in front of the a/c to keep them cool as they ripened.... The small Concord Grape Vine they had that I couldn't wait for the grapes to ripen.. I'd run out .... pick a vine.. go sit on their swing.  Rocking back in forth, lost in my world.. I would suck the grape out of the skin and spit the skin... while listening to the country sounds...  Freezing corn..... we'd have an area outside where it was all shucked.. inside big pots a boiling... and on the floor two big pots with ice cold water in them... we'd dump the hot corn in there to cool... I loved running by and grabbing out a nice cool ear of corn. Till this day I run my cooked corn on the cob under cold water... haolding on to the memory.   The table was covered in boards with nails in them where we cut the corn off the cob and bag it.   Well .. tonight I froze 31 quarts of corn... Those memories were flooding back.  Several times I got teary eyed.  I'm so thankful that I was able to spend time with them.. So thankful that they made such an impact on my life.. and so thankful she taught me things that I can carry on with my kids, and grandkids.   I just hope that I will make that same type of impact with my own grandchildren....

9 dozen ears of corn......

A guy I work with made this fabulous cutting boards for me....Thanks Wade!!!

First Day of School

I love the first day of school, and yes it's for selfish reasons.   I have a great job but the past year it has been very demanding & time consuming which leaves not much for the home life.  I'm so blessed to have the help from friends and from my older children that have allowed me to function this past year.   But today I was a happy camper.... We may just get back to some normalcy (what ever that may be *lol*).   Here's a few pics.. I can't believe how much they have grown... Elijah is in 4th grade & Adrian is an 8th grader.. Wow, the last year of middle school.

Happy Birthday Elijah.....

Elijah's Birthday is August 13th but Jenn's C-Section is scheduled for that day .. He feel's he will be forgotton because everyone is going to be all about the baby *lol*... So I went against what I normally will call non-birthday social ( I hate birthday's *lol*) and let him have a party...   They seemed to have a good time as for me.. I'm not sure I'll do it again... I'm jsut not a birthday person.. How do I get over that Susan???   Here are a few pics of his 10th  birthday party....

Elijah is a Bronco's Fan... Not bad looking football if I say so myself....

This is what happens when you have 4 boys with nothing but time on their hands... Oh my!!!

A Mother's Worst Nightmare....

Somebody had to have been  working overtime and was watching over my two boys on this day... And not a day goes by that I don't thank HIM for it.. I'm not even sure I can get thru this post with no tears.....

I've been finding burnt matches and other little red flags were starting to appear around the house.  I had asked Adrian several times if they were playing with matches and he always had a story.  My gut instinct didn't let up but not soon enough.   Finally I cornered Elijah when Adrian wasn't around and asked him & he admitted that they were playing with matches.  As he finally started to talk.. it wasn't only matches it was gas too.  My stomach felt sick .... I honestly began to shake internally.  Well come to find out they were trying to make FLAME THROWERS.... I cornered Adrian and he tried to walk around it but I had him... I told him to go get the supplies ... Well, we have a tin shed that doesn't have doors on it  and inside I found.. a water bottle box, burnt plastic, lots of burt matches & a spray bottle that they had filled with gas... OMG... I wanted to throw up!!!   Here I had left them home while I had been working and this has what has been happening and I just figured it out.. How could it be any worse... Well it got worse... Elijah told me that Adrian had sprayed gas on his pants (sweat) and lit them on fire... He had no burn marks at all.. so I really wandered if it happened.. Eijah told me it stung.. but if you had gas penetrate on to your skin it would begin to sting after a while. Adrian wouldn't have done that .. would he... So I asked to see the pants.  They had disposed of them.....  I was sick... literally sick.... I yelled, I screamed, I tried to explain any way manageable do you know how lucky you are...  I had to get to work... I packed them up .. called work crying and told them I'd be late had to take the boys to Jenn's....  So I dropped them off and cried most of the way back to work... I felt like a terrible mom... I'd paid so much attention to my job that I let this happen.. I was so thankful that God was watching out for them but also knew I was so lucky!!!!
That very day I called and made an appointment with our Chief "Randy" of the Grant Co. Fire #4.  He was more than willing to meet with the boy in the morning.    The next day we were at the station bright and early but Randy wasn't there.  I was able to get ahold of Jeff &; Aaron they are also on the dept., they graciously came down and met with the boys.   I knew Elijah was listening but wasn't sure on Adrian... afterwards we got in the car and I began to sob.. I asked Adrian if he really understood what he did... How would he have felt if Elijah would have bee burnt .....  I was so sick!!!!   I also told Adrian he better make sure he says his prayers and thanks God for watching out for them.. I then said.  you need to realize that God watches over us and protects us but he can't protect stupid!!! We have to use our common sense even when it's not working the way it should...

Well, things have calmed down... we've gone to the doctor, our med's were tweaked..(Adrian had grown several inches & ained 11 lbs) ... the common sense seems to be back for now..   but then last week as I cleaned Elijah's room.... I found this:

The burnt pants.. He wasn't lying... The emotions all came back...How these didn't go up in a mass ball of flame I will never know but I do know that I have thanked God every day for watching over them  and I'm so thankful that no one got hurt!!

I do believe Adrian took them seriously.. Elijah had grabbed the lighter for the bbq and was moving it & Adrian literally came uncorked.. Yelling at Elijah to put it down and how they promised not to touch matches or lighters anymore...
